Chocolicious Style

By Daya Kingston

Which woman can resist melting to the charms of chocolate. Chocolate is no longer just good enough to eat, the latest trend is to slather yourself in it. An array of chocolate based beauty treatments have hit the shelves and beauty salons, so, indulge. As a colour too, this can bring warmth and richness to any face and has taken the fashion world by storm.

These days spas and salons offer a whole series of chocolate treatments ranging from cocoa scrubs, chocolate massages to a chocolate body wrap. Various exotic ingredients like cocoa seed to exfoliate skin or a chocolate sea clay body mask are the secrets that make chocolate fantasies come alive.

Arthi Amarendra who heads Salon Aarthi says, “Chocolate colours for the hair come with delightful sounding names Toffee Cream, Double Brownie, Chocolate to Praline. Blonde highlights look great with chocolate hair. While choosing lipsticks, for fair skin, pick lipsticks in soft chocolate shades and for darker skin, go for medium chocolate tones. Contradicting the myth that dark colours make thin lips look smaller, an extremely dark chocolate lipstick outlined with a lip liner with a dot of gold gloss can give you a great pout. However, if you are choosing a very dark chocolate lipstick, go easy with the eye makeup,” she explains

Experts advise that while trying a smoky eye look, chocolate works better than black on Indian skins. A dark chocolate at the end of the eyelids can highlight the shape of the eye. Chocolate works well as everyday makeup”.

Stylist and Jewellery Designer, Ratika Haksar says, “Chocolate is a lovely tone that goes well with Indian colouring. Light browns give a natural look and are great for portfolio shoots. In high fashion shoots, chocolate is blended with rust, oranges and earthy colours.

“Unlike black eyeliner, a chocolate eyeliner is not so stark and more subdued. I like using brown for a smoky look. While light chocolate is perfect for the day, deeper shades work for evenings."

Sinful beauty

* Chocolate is very rich in minerals and contains more anti-oxidants than strawberries, which keeps skin young. The high content of flavonoids in dark chocolate can moisturise and make skin naturally shiny and smooth. This can also absorb UV light, which contributes to a better blood flow. Above all the chocolate experience not only makes you feel good but also smell good too.
